Lunchtime Talk @ Shenton Way
Catholic Prayer Society invites you to a series of 4 talks on the 4th Friday of every month (April to August 2012) on the theme "Preparing for the Year of Faith".
In April 2012, Vicar General Msgr Eugene Vaz started preparing the congregation at CPS Shenton with a series of talks on the coming “Year of Faith” which would be launched on 11th October 2012.
To quote Msgr Vaz:
"… the 'door of faith' is God’s work."
"… God is always keeping the door open for people to enter,"
"… giving people opportunities … to announce the message and proclaim the mystery of Christ.”
"… It is possible to cross this 'spiritual threshold' when the 'Word of God' is proclaimed and the heart allows itself to be shaped by transforming grace.”
“... to be 'the face of Christ' in their workplace and help others to know God."
Msgr Vaz concluded the talks on 31st August 2012 by delivering the working paper for the Senate on the new Evangelization (The Instrumentum Laboris).

"Vatican plans for Year of Faith include hymn, Mass, packed calendar"
[Extracts from the National Catholic Reporter, 21 June 2012]
VATICAN CITY -- With a hymn and a prayer, Italian Archbishop Rino Fisichella presented the Vatican's initial calendar of events for the Year of Faith, which begins with an Oct. 11 Mass in St. Peter's Square.
Pope Benedict called the Year of Faith to strengthen Catholics who go to church, reach out to those who have left but still yearn for God in their lives, offer a response to those who are searching for meaning and help those who think they do not need God, he said.
"We are not hiding the fact that there is a crisis of faith, but it is only when one becomes completely aware of a crisis that one can find ways to remedy it,” the
The Year of Faith is scheduled to conclude Nov. 24, 2013.

Talks at Suntec City
These 20 minute talks was held after the 1215pm Eucharistic Celebration at the Rock, Level 3, Suntec City.
Fr David Garcia delivered 3 talks on "Who is Church?”, "Being Church" and "Kingdom Builders” in July/August 2012. His talks were entertaining & well illustrated using powerpoint presentation. He provided an explanation of who made up the church, the roles of the priests / clergy / religious / laity; he also gave a description of the various models of the church and an explanation of how our faith & life should be integrated to help us do God'work and to build His kingdom. A good number of people stayed behind after Mass to attend his talks. Copies of his presentation were also made available to those who requested them.
There have been several requests for his presentaion and he has so obligingly given it to us to forward to those who want it.
Here are some comments from those attended the talks:
"Refreshing. Good reminder of our role in Church. Understand better the need to be the Church people to reach God. Look forward to more of similar talks”. [Henry]
"Good, precise & clear presentation”. [Rosemary]
“Good. Had a very clear understanding of the presentation. Hope to have Father presents more talks". [Jane]
"Lunch hour talk is convenient. Topic is very relevant for those who attended". [Susan]

Over 10 weeks, the participants watched DVD talks by Nicky and Sila Lee drawing on their own experience to give valuable advice and practical tips, interviews with parents, children etc. After the talk there is small group discussion for about 20-30 minutes depending on the length of the DVD talk.
The course was well received. Each week’s session was attended by about 12 participants. Not all the participants could attend every session but this means that each week, we had a different mix of people, adding to the variety of views.
“Insightful, enjoyed small group sessions”. [Elena]
“Learnt to be a better parent, understanding my toddler”. [Michelle]
“Hearing about others’ experiences on the videos and in real life. It’s been great learning from the facilitators who’ve been open & willing to share about their lives; closer to home – in our Asian context as well”. [Natalie]
“The video presentation, the ideas that other parents have on how they handled various situations – that I am not alone; others go through similar situations”. [Lynette]
“Learning from more experienced parents” [Karen]
“Most times the sharing sessions can be very interesting and it is a pity that we do not have more time to talk about all the issues. This is of course restricted by the lunch time hour that we’ve to work with, but it’d be good to hold longer sessions” [Natalie]
“The tips and suggestions are good. Now, I just need to work on remembering them and putting them to use”. [Lynette]
“The parenting course offered my wife and me a valuable opportunity to share experiences with other parents with the same faith. Over time we learned from each other. It was particularly comforting to know that we were not alone in the parenting issues we face. The material presented in Nicky and Sila Lee’s DVD was very informative. I enjoyed particularly the lively interviews and hearing the brilliant ideas that the Lees used in their own household. I hope more parents will benefit from the subsequent runs of this course”. [Kingston]
“Looking forward to Alpha Parenting Teens Course”. [Karen]
